Summer Has Begun...

And not with out a few things going right and a few things going wrong!!

Reid had his last day of school and they did a field day. It was super fun. They raced in potato sacks, rolled a watermelon, balanced an egg on a spoon and did a water balloon toss. Once the organized festivities were over the kids got to make up their own fun with bikes, water, sidewalk chalk and playing tag on the playground. Reid said he wanted every day to be like that at school... too bad he has to go to school to learn. :(

Once that day was over we had some time to wait until the pool opened. We went to parks, played with friends (especially our neighbor friend, the two boys can not get enough of each other), going to movies and hanging out at home.

Then finally the pool opened and we have had GREAT rainy, cool weather! Yeah!! We have only made it to the pool four times so far! Boo. We need some warm weather so we can go swimming. But truthfully I can't complain, the rain is keeping my garden looking fabulous and our grass green so it isn't all bad.

So summer was going pretty good. Then we came home from church last Sunday to notice our dog was a bit dirty. Upon putting him in the tub to give him a bath Logan informed me that it wasn't mud all over our pooch but blood. I ran out the neighbors to ask if they had heard or seen anything and our neighbor Mike told me he found Chop out in our front yard and put him back in the backyard thinking he was covered in mud from digging. I looked around a bit to see if there was anywhere he cold have escaped and couldn't find where he had gotten out. I returned inside to tell Logan and he had started changing into grubby clothes to take Chop to the vet. I looked in his mouth to find his palate a mess. It looked like he was missing teeth and had holes all over his palate. So off to the Emergency Vet we go, because of course whenever Chop hurts himself he does it on the weekend when no one is open. We rushed him into the vet dripping wet and told them what was wrong. They took x-rays and monitored him for three hours before they told us he had no internal injuries and that he needed to see a specialist for his upper jaw. It had been fractured from canine to canine. Completely broken right in half. The Emergency Vet kept him over night because they needed to sedate him so he wouldn't be in so much pain and wouldn't mess with his mouth. Monday morning I took him to a dental specialist and they took him right back to begin surgery to fix his jaw. Come to find out Chop actually fractured his jaw in two places... way to not just go half way!! The doctor told me it was one of the coolest surgeries he has seen, again way to go Chop!! Glad we could give the doc something to make his day. Meanwhile I am a basket case at home wondering if my doggy is going to survive this wretched event! Thankfully though he is all fixed up and feeling much better. His jaw is wired back together with an acrylic splint to keep it stable and some stitches on the tissue of his palate. He also has this nasty sore on his back, I will bare you the details, that is now our main focus. I have to clean it and change the bandage about every other day to keep it clean so it can heal. What a mess! Life just can't stay simple and boring can it?? We feel so blessed that he is alright and still with us. It was touch and go there at the ER Vet for that time and even through the night. They weren't sure if he would make it through the night with his mouth issues. Yes it cost us a pretty penny, but he is one of my kids and Reid's little playmate. Life would just not be the same with out him around! We love you Chop!!

Hopefully the rest of summer will be a bit more tame! Just lazy days at the pool!!
